As human beings it seems we are constantly striving for something more. Something different. Something better. Something bigger. Something healthier. Something more impressive. Something to make us feel more accomplished.
The New Year is a time that has us taking stock in what has been or what is, and deciding what we want to change. Loosing some extra weight, training for a marathon, getting that new position, trying out the new full body cleanse, breaking out of that bad relationship or job.
While it’s a very important practice to take moments throughout our lives to look at what’s working & what’s not & what we’d like more of or what we’d like to change… I find there is something very important missing to be able to make these shifts and changes possible.
Acceptance.
What if we could simply accept & be grateful with where we are right now?
What if we could consider for a moment that we’re exactly where we should be, doing exactly what we should be doing at exactly the right place and at exactly right time?
This is not to say that we shouldn’t change or strive for the better, towards our goals or dreams, but that perhaps we need to take pause first.
I find that often the largest hurdle I see in my clients who are wanting to move forward with there health is just that; frustration with “what presently is”. And this frustration is good, it’s what propels us toward change & better decisions. Yet, a huge piece of creating that change & not forcing the change, is acceptance.
We have to be okay with the present moment. Including our present state of health, weight, status, financial security, etc. etc. When we accept where we are, what we have, right here and right now, it actually HELPS US, launches us into the energy of change. And when we push against what is- wanting to force change, hating the present moment and all that it entails, we most often stay stuck put in the routines, decisions and cycles that keep us right where we are & further from our goals.
So, in the light of the New Year just around the corner, I offer you this thought:
Love yourself & your life exactly as it is, perfectly imperfect. Accept it all. The good and the bad. Be at peace with what is, right now.
This is the gateway to REAL sustained change. Complete and utter self love & self acceptance.
If you can keep this acceptance in your heart, when you focus on what changes you’d like to bring into your life for the New Year, it will act like a magnet for all of your desires, I promise.
Is this task easy?
Nope.
But is it simple?
Yes. Love & acceptance. Love & acceptance.
