The Truth About Scents

Candles, perfume, deodorant, room sprays, shampoo, soap & lotion, laundry detergent & dryer sheets… synthetic scents are everywhere! And while they may smell delicious... they can often be very detrimental to our health. And there are countless studies to prove we know very little about the affects of laboratory made fragrance.

Having lived above a laundry mat in our condo community for 5+ years now, we have experienced a good deal of synthetic fragrance inhalation issues as the dryer vents are directly below our windows. Unfortunately this spring & summer was particularly awful. Migraines & major concerns for our 2 year old’s lung development has been at the forefront of my mind and has rekindled my passion for this topic.

And it’s also nearly Fall which brings all of the Pumpkin & Apple Spice scents into our lives.

I grew up loving the Body Shop, Bath & Body Works & Yankee candle with their “clean laundry”, “pumpkins spice”, and “lilac” scents… but I had no idea they weren’t the real deal until I became and herbalist and trained my nose to know the difference. Since then I’ve had the honor to study with licensed aromatherapists like Linn Stillwell & Mindy Green & hope someday to learn from the Tisserand School as this topic is so vast & important. With my 16+ years experience as a practicing herbalist, I have used essential oils extensively, safely & effectively with myself & clients.

Both natural botanical extracts, as well as synthetic fragrances can be detrimental to health- IF and only IF, they are not sourced & used with care. The bottom line is, Mother Earth does scent best to benefit the mind, body & spirit. To learn more please access my dirt cheapEssential Oils: Potent Magic & Medicine Webinar.
